GENIA
YUSIM
ARTIST
Artist Statement:

My artistic journey took me from geometric abstraction to representational painting that includes portraits, landscapes, and figures in a landscape. A certain degree of abstraction, sometimes very subtle, is present in all my new pieces. Perfect representation is impossible and I want to make it unmistakably clear that my art expresses my vision of the world. For example, I like to distort space when I paint a figure in a landscape. Immanuel Kant, whose philosophy I recently discovered, rejected the notion that a pure, a priori knowledge of a mind-independent world is possible.
I often paint creative, spiritual, and contemplative people, such as musicians absorbed in their music. Landscape is not just a backdrop for a human figure in my paintings. It might be a metaphor for a person’s inner life, or vice versa, a person might be a metaphor for a place.
